All voices matter
Many people want to adopt a greener lifestyle after considering the world’s environmental issues. We try to buy eco-friendly goods, reduce waste, and use less energy. Many workers and activists today play a significant role in making their countries environmentally friendly and raising public awareness. The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) measures the most environmentally friendly countries.
Let’s look at which nations are performing best and why.
EPI score: 82.5
Denmark is aggressively working to reduce its carbon emissions to prevent climate change. Denmark has implemented the utilization of wind turbines as renewable energy sources, and they have made public transportation more accessible, promoted the use of electric vehicles, and built new cycle paths. Denmark also excelled in wastewater treatment, pollutant emissions, biodiversity, health, and ecosystem vitality.
EPI score: 82.3
Despite having a fast-growing population, Luxembourg came in second place on the list of the world’s most environmentally friendly nations. They run programs to create environmentally friendly infrastructure, lessen groundwater contaminant levels, and create water protection zones.
EPI score: 81.5
Switzerland aims to adopt a financially motivated strategy to promote sustainability, achieve net zero emissions, and save biodiversity. The Spatial Planning Act, which the Swiss government also put into effect, imposes stringent limitations and restrictions on urban growth and expansion to conserve open spaces.
EPI score: 81.3
The UK has made significant efforts to reduce plastic pollution. The first step involved adding a fee for all plastic carrying bags, which drastically decreased their use by 90%. They have also implemented bans on plastic cutlery and plastic straws.
EPI score: 80
Since France’s economy is less industrialized than many other wealthy nations, it has been able to cut air pollution and CO2 emissions. Laws to prevent food waste and other projects like hydro turbines have also been executed.
Looking at the list above, it is evident that Europe has the most eco-friendly countries. It is high time other countries take action against climate change and try to avoid these crises.
