Power Division to coordinate with Sky Power for $800 million investment in Pakistan’s Solar Initiatives
Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, Pakistan’s acting prime minister, has instructed the Power Division to work with SkyPower Global Group, which has expressed interest in making a direct investment of $800 million in the country’s 1000 MW solar power project.
The interim prime minister’s speech at the 78th General Assembly was mentioned in a letter sent by Kerry E. Adler, president and chief executive officer of the SkyPower Global Group of Companies.
He described SkyPower’s hallmark project, the Green Giant Initiative, as a $800 million direct investment fueling a revolutionary 1000 MW solar plant in Pakistan.
He said, “This initiative is meticulously crafted in alignment with UNECE’s guidelines for PPPs, echoing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Given Pakistan’s importance in our strategic roadmap for 2024, we see this as an opportunity to jointly showcase to the world the transformative power of such partnerships in catalyzing economic growth and addressing the existential threat of climate change.”
The Pakistani government has set an ambitious objective of tapping the potential of Alternative and Renewable Energy for the benefit of its people. Renewable energy’s contribution to the anticipated energy mix from 2023 to 2031 has been boosted from 41% to 61%.
