All voices matter
Achieving that elusive work-life balance has been a constant struggle for many of us.
Some of us prioritize our social life, while some are in a constant race to earn a living. If you ask a room full of people what work-life balance means to them, most of them will have different answers.
To me, work-life balance means keeping my response in control, focusing all energies on one, and not thinking about the other at that specific point in space.
One thing I love about working at my company is the flexible work-hour policy. It helps me fit other things into my life while keeping my mental health in check.
I can spend time with my family and friends without worrying about work calls. And I don’t even have to have guilty thoughts about how I’m prioritizing my private life over my professional life.
Balance is crucial to having a balanced life. Without that, it is not worthwhile. Even the body can recognize when it needs to stop working and will let you know.
Most people’s conceptions of work-life balance are limited to a 9 to 5 job and work-free weekend, which, in my opinion, is the exact opposite of what the term refers to since this narrow definition completely undermines the “labor” component.
Finding a balance is challenging since you want to give your all at work without personal interruptions and forget about work when you go home.
However, this does mean that it is not achievable.
Let me tell you something; work-life balance is not to prevent work from taking over your life.
Love your job, put out the effort, and be passionate about it, but don’t use your level of productivity to gauge how well you’re doing with your family, health, or leisure time.
