In July, the mega project to connect Gujranwala to the Lahore-Sialkot motorway (M11) was launched by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The authorities have been directed to complete the project before the general elections.
The project is undertaken by the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). With a total whooping budget of PKR 11 billion, the project is to be completed in 90 days.
The expressway begins at the Benazi Chowk and connects at Wahandu to the Lahore-Sialkot motorway. The existing 20-foot path will be extended to a 330-foot wide dual road. Funding for the project is being provided by the Federal government.
Recently, the caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the 15.2-kilometer stretch of road from Benazir Chowk to Wahandu to inspect the progress. He checked the earthwork, stonework, and the laying of foundations.
According to a news report on September 27, the workings are progressing smoothly. This motorway is supposed to establish a direct link between Lahore, Sialkot, and Gujranwala. The caretaker Chief Minister also revealed his plans of constructing commercial areas along the motorway.
The construction is supposed to adhere to the given timeline. This road will shorten the distance between the two cities to only 45 minutes.
