Sindh High Court’s new orders on removal of land encroachments from housing societies

According to a news source, the Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered the removal of land encroachments from the housing societies in the city of Karachi.

The Sindh High Court ordered the Deputy Commissioner (east), the police officers, and rangers to remove these encroachments.

The operation needs to be carried out in all haste, the SHC demanded. The bench led by Justice Naeem Akhtar asked them to make haste and carry out the operation as early as possible. They are invited to submit compliance reports by the two-judge bench till November 14th.

The cases of encroachment have increased exponentially since 2016. According to a report submitted by the Pakistan Post Office Employees Cooperative Housing Society over 71 acres of land is stolen.

The post office employees filed a petition in 2001 against the land encroachments taking up 71 acres of their property in Scheme 33, Gulzar-i-Hijri.

The High Court ordered the rangers to support the District administration in December. This resulted from the reports by the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police for the East. The reports stated that the encroachments cover too much land to be tackled individually.
