All voices matter
The ongoing war in Gaza has shaken the world due to its horrors. Since Oct 7, more than 19000 have been killed and 48000+ have been wounded according to the Gaza Health Ministry. 2.3 million people are displaced with little food, water, medical care, fuel, or secure shelter.
When it all began, we witnessed the regular reporting by big media organizations like Al Jazeera from Gaza. Other international media reporters were unable to enter the war zone.
Due to the restrictions, the Palestinian social media content creators jumped in and started reporting everything through their social media handles and became war reporters
Only due to the Palestinian freelance journalists the world is getting to witness the horrendous crimes Israel is committing.
Some freelance journalists have joined hands with international media houses like CNN and Al Jazeera. From air strikes to ethnic cleansing, the world is seeing it all. It is kudos to them that the world started raising its voice against the ongoing ethnic cleansing.
The journalists are not only reporting the atrocities but they are also living it. Hind Khoudary returned to Gaza two months ago after four years in Turkey.
She has been documenting everything since Oct 7 using her mobile phone and camera. She has been working with the international media.
She says in a caption on her Instagram “Our goal is to amplify the voices of Gazans and share their stories.
It’s important to note that there is currently no organization or association offering support to journalists on the ground. We lack access to electricity & internet.”
Abdul Hakim Abu Riash is a Palestinian freelance journalist who has been covering the war since its initial days. Through his Instagram, he is documenting all the deaths, the injuries, the devastation of the people, and the destruction of Gaza through his camera.
He says in a post, “I’m afraid to open LinkedIn and see people’s end-of-year achievements while my biggest accomplishment in these past two months is that I remained alive”.
But amidst all the noise and chaos he remains determined to report whatever happens in Gaza and spread the message to the world.
Since the onset of the war, these journalists have been reporting every second of the day to show the world the cruelty so that the world might wake up.
They are living every second of the war while trying to cover the war. They have lost their homes, their families, and cities to the airstrikes.
Even if they aren’t neutral, they are doing their role, and that too with sheer courage and determination.
