All voices matter
Even Israelis are asking to end this war
In October 1973, Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on two opposite fronts. This war lasted for three weeks and the Arabs lost it militarily but Arabs believe that they won the war psychologically.
They succeeded in forcing Israel to accept its vulnerability and proceed with a political solution of making peace with its neighbors.
The history
Now fifty years later Hamas, which is a far cry in military might from the organised military powers of Egypt and Syria and a very sophisticated and advanced Israeli military.
The conflict that started two weeks ago is looking more ominous. Forces of war have been unleashed and have put all the region in jeopardy.
Unlike the previous wars which started, had confrontation, death, destruction, negotiation, and then a ceasefire. Now this conflict is unpredictable.
Even a decisive military victory, destruction of Gaza and its infrastructure, or the killing of Hamas leadership is unlikely to produce any positive results for Israel.
Violence always gives way to more violence. During this conflict, more than 10,000 Palestinians were killed. This conflict has extended towards the West Bank and the Israeli military is targeting the people there.
This has made the situation very tense and Israel is fast losing support among the masses in the Europeans.
Support for Benjamin Netanyahu
At this moment the emotional jingoism of a nation is quite common. They come out in support of their government. Yet the situation is quite different.
There is a constant decline in support for Benjamin Netanyahu. According to a recent poll, Israeli people consider Netanyahu responsible for the Hamas attack and demand his resignation.
Although Netanyahu’s government had already lost its support among the masses, some believed in the continuation of the government till the ceasefire.
Israeli civil society
Israeli civil society is in a state of shock. They are burying their dead, and treating their injured ones. Although they are not aware of the miserable condition of the people in Gaza because of the state-controlled media.
People yet public outrage against the government is quite obvious. Ministers are not allowed to visit those injured by the angry public.
After this war, there is hope for a sustainable solution for both parties. The public can give their consent on the issue if they are not pushed and there is a solid agreement for the coexistence of both ethnic groups.
The Israelis must acknowledge the fact that they will have to reinstate settlers, remove the checkposts, and hand over more autonomy to the Palestinian authority.
