Lahore Development Authority (LDA) is concerned with most of the regulatory and developmental processes taking place in the Provincial Capital.
The working body of LDA has sanctioned a proposal to transfer the enforcement function to the Traffic Engineering & Transport Planning Agency (TEPA).
This transfer will take place from the LDA’s town planning wing to TEPA. This agency will be specifically concerned with enforcement functions, related to parking lots and the right of way.
In the proposal, the Traffic Engineering & Transport Planning Agency will overtake four of the city’s major parking plazas. They are also responsible for ensuring that encroachments don’t happen.
This decision of the Lahore Development Authority was brought about by the traffic crisis in Lahore.
TEPA will be assisting the relevant departments in optimizing the parking spaces. This will contribute to better the traffic issue, the congestion issue, and the environmental issue in the city of Lahore.
According to a source, LDA’s town planning wing has faced challenges in the enforcement of the building rules.
They are not able to effectively prevent the encroachment on their own. Their wing is related to building control, commercialization, and appropriate use of parking spaces. This department was perceived to have shortcomings in the enforcement of its rules.
