What to wear ( and not to wear) in a Zoom Interview?
Always keep one thing in mind, visuals are essential, and everyone will view your conversation through that prism.
So you must be wondering then, what should be the proper attire for a Zoom meeting? The answer is simple, wear the same thing as you would for an in-person interview.
As a hiring manager, I will give you a few tips that can help you ace your interview next time.
Groom yourself
Before your Zoom interview, take a good look at yourself. Make sure you have a proper haircut and style it professionally. For those with beards, make sure it’s trimmed and neat. And try not to go too basic or overboard with your makeup.
Don’t use busy patterns
Candidates should prefer controlled patterns since they reduce the possibility of interviewers becoming distracted from what you are saying. Hold off on wearing trendy tops with geometric designs. It is one of the things I find very distracting while conducting interviews.
Choose color wisely
According to the theory of color psychology, the colors we see can affect our perceptions and moods. To ensure that the attention is kept on, it is best to embrace subdued hues completely. Colors such as white, black, blue, and grey should be favored rather than colors such as red, purple, green, and orange
Don’t over-accessorize
When it comes to jewelry, keep things basic. Just wear one or two rings, and go with simple, smaller earrings. A silk scarf is a good accessory for a polished appearance. If you choose to wear a tie, ensure it’s not too flashy or conspicuous.
One thing I’ve noticed is that people generally forget to dress fully. They wear shorts or something casual beneath, thinking we might not notice, we do so next time dress properly from head to toe.
