You don’t need to go to Africa for safari, when you can visit Lal Sohanra National Park
Lal Sohanra Park is situated in Bahawalpur, Punjab Pakistan. It is one of the largest South Asian parks. It is a UNESCO-declared Biosphere Reserve. Lal Sohanra is also famous for its biodiversity. It includes deserts, wetlands, and forest ecosystems.
It is situated at a distance of 35 kilometers east of Bahawalpur. It is a beautiful synthesis of forest and desert. It spreads over an area of 127,480 acres and is situated on both sides of the desert branch canal.
Out of which 20,974 acres are Greenland, 101,726 are dryland and the remaining 4,780 acres are wetlands (ponds and lakes). Its dunes are one to six meters high and occupy thousands of acres. The landscape of the park is flat.

Management
The objectives of the management of the park are the preservation of flora and fauna, species of Cholistan especially the endangered ones, and encouraging the scientists to study the native flora and fauna.
Facilities
There are many facilities available for the visitors at Lal Sohanra Park.
Boating, horse riding, camel riding, bamboo huts, children’s park, canteens and PTDC Motels.
Along with these facilities, there are many attractions available for the public, which include Oval Lake, blackbuck, Lion Safari, chinkara, rhino, black swan, and white swan.
Species
There are many species to watch in Lal Sohanra Park, like long-eared hedgehog, Nilgai antelope, black buck, chinkara gazelle, hog deer, red fox, Bengal fox, wild boar, little civet, Indian Hare, and many more.
Many species of reptiles live through the park among these are the monitor lizard, Russel’s viper, Indian cobra, saw-scaled viper, wolf snake, John’s sand boa, and spiny-tailed lizard.
More than 160 species of birds are also present, including the Hubara bustard, griffon vulture, honey bustard, laggard falcon, kestrel, Eurasian sparrow hawk, Egyptian vulture, lark, and owls to name a few.
Visitors
Visitors can also have an exhilarating wildlife safari. Houbarabustards, jackals, desert foxes, and deer roam freely in their natural habitats.
The weather is very hot in summer and reaches 50°c and can drop as low as 0°c in winter. It must be on our must-visit list for its diverse attractions.
